Knitting is something we all associate with our grandmothers. 'Dadi wala sweater' holds a special memory for most of us. But what if we say someone took knitting up as a hobby to overcome anxiety??
What began as a hobby has now been converted into a side hustle. Sohail Nargund, a 28-year-old man from Hubli in Karnataka, took up knitting last year to ease his mental health issues.
Last year, he started learning knitting from YouTube tutorials and started enjoying the whole process. In an Indian household, knitting is a hobby usually taken up by women of the house.?However, breaking gender stereotypes, this man found solace in needles and yarns.?
In an interview with Hindustan Times, he said,?
¡°I started knitting in April 2021 to heal my anxiety, and I had read somewhere that knitting helps you reduce anxiety."?
Today, his father and sister help him in managing and delivering orders. The entire family supports him. He only has one regret¡ª he didn't learn knitting from his mother. He lost his mother some years back.?
Sohail added, "I engage in this hobby every day for at least three hours as it really helps me to stay calm."
Sharing his story with MyStoryTrust, he said,
?"I knit in my free time, and I work as a full-time engineer in Bangalore. I want to show that no hobby is gender-biased. People are. Knitting is not for only women. Men can take it up too. Good Things happen, and we have to continue what we are doing. I can conclude by saying, ¡°the flower does not wait for the bees, the flower blooms, and the bees come.¡±
