The foodies of India have gathered online to set the record straight. Recently, ¡®Malpua¡¯ started trending on Twitter after a user on the micro-blogging platform declared it ¡°India¡¯s worst sweet.¡± People were absolutely furious and got on board to share their support for the desi dessert.
Malpua has been an underrated sweet in India for a long time. It is mainly made from barley and honey, but the dish has different versions in various parts of the country. Famously, you can stumble upon a delicious bite of the sweet in Odisha, West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Uttarakhand.
It is commonly made by crushing ripe bananas and mixing them with flour, water, or milk. Some regions also add jaggery to the mix to make the batter extra sweet. This batter is then fried in oil or ghee until the flat, pancake-like discs become golden brown on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside.
In some parts of India, the dish is served with rabri or kheer. Making the whole set an explosion of sweetness in the mouth.?
Twitter user Shiv Arora took to the social media platform on Wednesday and wrote, ¡°It¡¯s time to declare that India¡¯s worst sweet is Malpua.¡± People on the internet were appalled by Shiv¡¯s choice of dessert.?
One user gauged, ¡°Rabri ke saath nahi khayi hogi,¡± but the poster did not back down and replied, ¡°Even Worse.¡±
Another protested, "I love malpua (home-made), and I think if you were to hold a poll for the worst mithai, soan papdi will decimate malpua to win the award."??
One user suggested, ¡°If U have Malpua in Kashi, you will immediately change your opinion. It¡¯s juicy but still dry from outside. I have not seen such Malpua anywhere else in India. Malpua and Rabdi is one of the most popular delicacies served at wedding parties. Discard ur bias, sir.¡±
While one was convinced Shiv never had good-quality Malpua, ¡°Galat jagah khaya hoga.. Rabdi Malpua is (emoji).¡±
One commented, ¡°This is blasphemy.¡±
