A UK man says he's flying to Ukraine to fight Russian troops - because he's "not doing much with life."
Harvey Hunt, 50, signed up to the Army nearly 34 years ago and served for more than three years. However, during his service he didn't see any fighting first-hand, Wales Online reported.?
Hunt is reportedly set to fly to Poland, where he will then try and link up with fellow fighters.
He revealed to the outlet that he will head to the Ukrainian border via the pan-European E40 motorway and introduce himself as a former serviceman.??
Hunt, who claims to have served in the Royal Artillery as a gunner, will then head to a petrol station in the Ukrainian town of Novoiavorivsk, which is on the road to Lviv.??
"I've got military training, I'm not doing much with my life - I want to help.?I'm sitting watching the news, and I'm thinking 'I can get off my a** and help them'. I can hold a gun and shoot it," he told Wales Online.?
"I think [the situation] is disgusting. I think Russia should b***** off and leave all the kids and women," he added.?
His wife, Georgia Hunt, is fully supporting her husband as she says he's doing it for the right reasons.?
"It's scary but I understand why he wants to go, and every part of me supports him in that. All the kids and women and people that are dying - it's quite upsetting. If he can help in some sort of way, I would support him," she said.?
On Tuesday night, Ukraine's Deputy Interior Minister said any fighters who would join Ukraine's "foreign legion" would be offered citizenship in the country once the war is over.??
But British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said earlier this week that the travel advice remains to not travel to Ukraine, according to reports.
Meanwhile,?Russia's invasion of?Ukraine?has entered into its 14th day. Russian troops are bombarding major cities in Ukraine, and while they have faced setbacks on the battlefield ! Kremlin seems undeterred from its campaign to take Ukraine.??
The toll of this conflict is growing. The?UN?has said that, as of March 8,?more than 474 civilians have been confirmed killed?and hundreds more have been wounded.?
