It is no surprise that?Desis are passionate about their food. While Italians might be best known for their aggressive take on how to make a good bowl of pasta, Desis pride themselves on making some of the best street food in the world. So, when someone tries to add their own take to the dishes, people are vocal about their aversions.
One participant got flak on Twitter after she attempted to add foreign ingredients to the classic Indian street food delicacy, Pani Puri. During a mystery box challenge on MasterChef Australia, Australian-Indian chef Aditi Nevgi attempted to make pani puri, but she switched up the classic recipe and added avocado and salmon roe to the mix.
After watching Nevgi add ¡°Western¡± ingredients to a perfectly well-designed Indian dish, people on the internet were concerned and upset. Many users screamed blasphemy, for pani puri or golgappa is only acceptable in its purest form to a common desi.
The internet has already been hurt by bizarre recipes that get posted online from time to time. People have already shunned the idea of adding chocolate and cheese to pani puri. Now, they are also reacting negatively to Nevgi¡¯s idea of making a "Mexican" pani puri.
People on the internet had polarising reactions to the recipe. One user was ready to unsubscribe from the platform after being seriously offended by the recipe. While another wanted the chef to serve jail time for her idea. One more user shared how they had never cared much about such specificities, but watching the recipe had made them react aggressively.
While for some, all the rage being unleashed online was a bit much, one user felt that pani puri was a versatile dish that could have any sort of filling and still taste heavenly.??
