In a heartwarming gesture, a foodie in the United States has decided to help out five of his favourite but struggling food joints in Manhattan¡¯s Chinatown by giving them generous tips.
Arieh Smith, better known on Youtube as XiaoMaNYC, has gone viral for handing out five $1000 tips to show his appreciation for beleaguered Chinatown restaurants in New York amid the pandemic. In the clip, many of the restaurateurs are overwhelmed by the tips.

He starts his video by explaining before handing out these huge tips, which he neatly placed into bright red envelopes that are traditionally exchanged as gifts on Chinese New Year celebrations. ¡°I got five thousand dollars (approx. Rs 3,67,960),¡± he says and ¡°we¡¯re going to be at five different restaurants and handing out each a nice little ¡®hongbao¡¯ (red envelopes)¡±.
The vlogger, whose channel focuses on Chinese language and culture says in the video he wanted to help out these struggling neighbourhood institutions, which often operated on ever slim margins.?

He added how all these small eateries "not only provide great food, but also support a lot of employees and are all family-run."
At the first?restaurant?that XiaoMaNYC visited, he starts chatting in Mandarin with Wendy, one of the workers about how the business is doing and she says "Honestly, we're just hanging in there".?
Smith hands over the red envelope which she refuses at first. When she looks into the amount of money, she immediately hands it back to him in disbelief.? ?
