The bushfires in Australia have claimed the lives of half a billion animals. Birds have been dropping dead from the sky because of the intense heatwave and koalas and kangaroos have literally burnt alive in the bushfires.?The bushfires have also reportedly killed almost two dozen people.
Rescue workers and firefighters are doing their best to save as many lives as they can but there are those who have lost their lives in the process. Firefighters have been braving high temperatures of the fires and in that there have been casualties.?
A 19-month-old boy in Australia recently received the medal of honour on behalf of his firefighter father who died battling bushfires. The photo has warmed the hearts of netizens.?
The images are from the funeral of Geoffrey Keaton where his son received a posthumous medal to honour his father's bravery.
Keaton along with another firefighter lost their lives while fighting bushfires on December 19.
The pictures were posted on Facebook by New South Wales Fires Service with the caption, ¡®Today the NSW RFS family farewelled one of their own, with the funeral of Geoffrey Keaton held in western Sydney earlier today. Geoff was one of two firefighters who tragically lost their lives while fighting fires in southwest Sydney on 19 December 2019¡¯.?
Keaton's son stood unmoving, in a firefighter outfit, when he received the medal from NSW Rural Fire Service Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons.
Keaton and his colleague sadly died after a falling tree hit their rescue vehicle.
