Weddings have undergone a total transformation in India, from being an open-to-all affair to a close-knit evening ball. Today, people are trying to transform the way they celebrate their partnerships. From the flamboyant to the under-the-radar, weddings in India come in all shapes and sizes.??
Taking what most thought was humour, a couple entertained the internet recently when a screenshot of their wedding invitation made the rounds on the internet. On Twitter, now X, a user named Mahesh shared a wedding invitation and wrote, ¡°All you need is love to get married.¡±
The image was marked in red to point out the obvious and hilarious stroke on the wedding invitation. Any average wedding invitation would have the usual groom¡¯s name and the bride¡¯s name. Some add the names of the parents and the in-laws as well. Others add a special message on behalf of the youngest member of the family.? ?
All these additions are pretty standard. However, the internet was not gobsmacked because of these usual lines but was actually taken aback by the special mention of the couple and their respective alma maters in the wedding card.
Besides the groom¡¯s name, ¡®Piyush Bajpayee,' there was a proud mention of "IIT Bombay," from which the groom presumably graduated. Similarly, for the bride, ¡®Mamta Mishra,¡¯ there was mention of her alma mater, "IIT Delhi."??
Although weddings in India have started to incorporate bizarre traditions like a bridal dance or the?groom riding a bullet?instead of a white mare to the wedding location, this addition of educational qualifications on the card took Indian wedding weirdness to a whole new level.
The authenticity of the?wedding invitation is not clear as of yet, but it does seem like something a proud, big Indian family would do. The Indian public is known for their love and high regard for the numerous IITs (Indian Institute of Technology) spread across the country.
The university¡¯s name in itself is a big enough flex for a family, but having two IITians form a bond and join hands is the ultimate dream for an average desi household.
People on the internet were not too keen on the invitation. One user sarcastically suggested that it would be better if they also added the stream the couple had studied as well as their AIR (All India Rank).
Another chimed in and suggested the couple add their salary packages, which are assumed to be bulky, on their wedding invitations too.
