'You are not invited' cards, chores for guests: Couple's unique wedding plan divides the internet
Planning for any wedding brings the best?worst out of anyone. From groomzillas to bridezillas, crazy relatives fighting over food or making an issue out of something totally irrelevant, wedding in India and outside have seen it all. Somehow the event becomes less about the bride and groom and more about the fringe details: food, seating, travel etc. Another such case emerged recently when a user took to Reddit to reveal that their cousin's wedding had some bizarre plans for guests and it was something they couldn't get out of. Here's what went on.
Why did this particular wedding plan go viral?
A man recently turned to Reddit to share details about his cousin's upcoming wedding that he shared he couldn't get out of. This one, they said, was a destination wedding on a budget, one that guests would have to travel at least five hours to get to.?
"I just found out that the wedding couple are sending 'cards' to people that are not invited that they are getting married soon and 'you are in our hearts on this special day' BEFORE the wedding," they wrote adding that the 'you're not invited' cards were almost akin to adding salt to the wound by going out of the way to tell people they wouldn't be a part of their big day.
But here's where it probably gets worse. "I got a text from the couple saying that "Everyone has a role to help set up. Once the ceremony is done the wedding party will leave to take photos while the GUEST set up the tables for the reception." OP was clearly upset when they wrote that rather than save to hire help for their big day, the couple went travelling only to turn around and hand chores to guests. Even worse, "Now theyre planning the parents to do errands for them before the wedding. Such as picking up the cake, flowers etc."
People can wrap their heads around the concept of a budget wedding, but to make guests work when they've turned up to celebrate your big day seems like a bit of a red flag. It seems the best thing to do in such a case is not even bother to show up. For OP that isn't an option.?
"Im obligated to go as my mom is part of the wedding party. (I was invited as a guest and my mom as part of the party), as much as I dont want to go, I kinda have to since its just me and mom (im an only child)," they wrote.

OP shared the post on r/weddingshaming sub Reddit. There was a slew of comments from other users, some of which we've mentioned here. "What they are planning sucks and is rude and that's reason to not attend. If you do want to go to see family and to see a possible train wreck, make it clear that you aren't going to help set anything up. If she sends you a notice of your "job", reply back that you have other plans and will catch up with her at the reception.?What she wants the parents to do is between the couple and the parents. The 'rents might be perfectly happy running errands," was one's user's suggestion.
"They genuinely thought they were being Nice. Lol," wrote another. "Surely the only reason for this would be to hope those people still send a gift even though they are not invited. Seems so tacky," was another user's take.
