US: Woman About To Throw Away Lottery Ticket Discovers Rs 1.6 Crore Win ?

A woman in the United States was about to throw away her lottery ticket when she decided to check it again and discovered a $200,000 (Rs 1.6 crore) prize waiting for her.

Jacqueline Leigh, 60,?told North Carolina Education?Lottery officials she bought a $5 Hot 5’s scratch-off from a store in?Roper, but did not realise it was a winning ticket.

"I really was about to throw it away. But I went back and looked at it again and that's when I discovered it," she said.?

She was left shocked after discovering the ticket that nearly went into the trash was worth $200,000. Once she realised she won the jackpot prize, she called her family.

“I told my daughter and she said, ‘mom are you for real'. I’ve never won anything like this before. It’s a blessing," she added.? ?

Leigh took home $142,021 after taxes and plans to pay off her car and some bills, according to lottery officials.??

Earlier, a man in Michigan, U.S., unknowingly entered into a lottery's second chance game and ended up walking away with $100,000 (Rs 79.55 lakh) jackpot.?

The 58-year-old Oakland County man, who chose to remain anonymous, won $100,000 on the $300,000,000 Diamond Riches Second Chance Drawing — the top prize for the game.? ?

He told Michigan?Lottery?officials that he had bought a few tickets. He used the lottery's app to scan a few non-winning without realising he was setting himself up for a jackpot.??

"I bought a few of the $300,000,000 Diamond Riches tickets and scanned them on the Lottery app after I scratched them to double check them.?I never read the back of the ticket, so I didn’t know that by scanning them, I earned entries into a giveaway,"?said the player.?

"I saw an email from the Lottery one day notifying me that I’d won a $100,000 prize in the $300,000,000 Diamond Riches second chance drawing," he said.??

"I called the Lottery to see what the email was about, which is when I learned that scanning the tickets had entered me into a drawing. It was such a surprise!" he continued.?

The man visited the?lottery?headquarters to claim his winnings, which he plans to use to help his family.
