In a remarkable stroke of luck, Latoya Burke from Chesapeake, Virginia, has won six separate prizes in the Virginia Lottery by purchasing six identical tickets for the same Pick 5 draw. Burke's tickets, bought at the Tinee Giant store on Jackson Avenue, netted her a total of $180,000 in winnings from the 5th June draw.
According to a press release by Virginia Lottery, Burke selected the number combination 5-5-5-5-0 on each of her six tickets. Remarkably, this combination matched the winning numbers, securing her a $30,000 prize per ticket.
"I checked the numbers, and I was happy," Burke shared with the state-run lottery. She has not yet revealed any planned spendings she would undertake with the prize money.
Virginia Lottery disclosed that the overall odds of winning any prize in the Pick 5 game are 1 in 32.47, implying that around one out of every 32 tickets gets a prize.
By purchasing six identical tickets, Burke effectively increased her chances of winning. However, the odds of hitting the jackpot, which requires matching all five numbers in exact order, are significantly steeper at 1 in 501,386.
Burke's incredible win is part of a broader pattern of multiple lottery wins in Virginia. For instance, Deborah Brown, also from Virginia, previously won the Pick 4 lottery an astonishing 30 times in a single day. Like Burke, Brown used a strategy of repeatedly playing the same numbers until they eventually hit the prize.

While such multiple wins are rare, they highlight the mathematical possibility inherent in lottery games. Buying a large number of identical tickets can theoretically enhance a player's chances of winning, though it does not guarantee success.
In other cases, people have exercised unique strategies to improve their odds. Stefan Mandel, for example, used a mathematical approach to win multiple lotteries in Romania and Australia by exploiting specific loopholes.
