For a 54-year-old woman, it was her sense of smell that took a major hit. A video taking the world by storm shows how US native Jennifer Henderson was incredibly emotional after she finally got her senses back after a long battle with Covid.?

Henderson first came into contact with the disease in January 2021. While her initial ailments like headaches and fatigue quickly recovered, her altered senses persisted for over a year.

For Henderson, her favourite?smells, like those of the flowers in her yard, became unpleasant, along with the taste of most foods that she loved dearly. She told the Cleaveland Clinic her worries: "Most food tasted like garbage, and I couldn't smell anything."

She shared how, after catching the flu, garlic and bananas tasted like gasoline and metal. "Ranch dressing and peanut butter tasted like chemicals. And chicken tasted like rotting flesh," Henderson informed NBC News.

She Got Hooked With An Experimental Treatment Often Used To Treat Pain And PTSD

Henderson tried all sorts of tricks and remedies to get herself through the post-Covid condition, but nothing worked, even when she went as far as trying acupuncture and smell training.?

Her life was going downhill until she found an experimental treatment through a support group on the internet.

The treatment was called Stellate Ganglion Block (SGB). The procedure is commonly used to treat pain and PTSD. It involves injecting temporary anaesthesia into nerves on either side of the neck. As scary as it sounds, Henderson decided to administer the injections.?

In December, Henderson got her first shots of the treatment and noticed a significant improvement in her sense of smell. After an excruciating 2 years, Henderson finally tried to smell?coffee after her treatment and burst into tears once she could smell the beans. Her video about finally being able to smell again garnered millions of views online.
