Harry Potter author JK Rowling has defended herself after being slammed for?casting a Korean actor to play the character of Voldemort¡¯s snake Nagini in the latest Fantastic Beasts film. People have lashed back online sayings it's blatant racism.?
The revelation that Nagini would feature in Fantastic Beasts: Crimes of Grindelwald, emerged in a promotional video for the film released on Wednesday. It shows South Korean actor Claudia Kim turn from a woman into a snake.
One critic wrote to Rowling on Twitter, saying ¡°Listen Joanne, we get it, you didn¡¯t include enough representation when you wrote the books. But suddenly making Nagini into a Korean woman is garbage.¡±

After a flood of criticism?on social media,??J.K. Rowling decided to stage a defence and clarified her stance.?
Rowling responded, writing that Nagini is a Naga, which are ¡°snake-like mythical creatures of Indonesian mythology." She also wrote that she had been holding onto the secret that Nagini was a ¡°maledictus¡± ¨C a human who had turned into an animal due to a blood curse ¨C for 20 years.
She then got a lesson on nagas by the author of the bestselling fiction series 'The Secret of the Nagas' Amish Tripath himself! Ouch!?
