Celebrity chef Salt Bae has constantly been in the news recently over the outrageously expensive menu at his new Nusr-Et Steakhouse in Knightsbridge.?
Now, a northern chef has created his own take of?Salt Bae's menu with Lancashire-inspired dishes.?Gareth Mason, 33, covered his signature Whist Pies, mini meat pies popular in Lancashire, in edible 24-carat gold leaf to mock Nusret Gokce's 'ludicrous' menu.
Also on the makeshift menu were gold-wrapped chips, bacon and gold sausage butties and a 24-carat carrot. The dad of two paid ?13 for 30 sheets of gold leaf and says the amount on his pies has been valued at 5p by a jeweller.
Gareth, 33, said of Nusr-et: ¡°We read a review and thought it was absolute madness. So we decided to have a laugh with it.?
¡°We¡¯ve got traditional Lancashire dishes covered in gold for a fraction of the price.¡°It just shows it¡¯s not expensive to buy in and it doesn¡¯t enhance the flavour because it doesn¡¯t taste of anything," said Gareth.
Former butcher Bae, shot to fame in 2017 thanks to a meme of him sprinkling salt dramatically. He has celebs flocking for his signature steaks and ?45 gold bunless burgers.
But Gareth said: ¡°The joke is on customers if they¡¯re willing to pay that. It¡¯s just a gimmick.¡±??
By contrast, Gareth charges ?12 for a pie and pickle platter at the Absolute Bar and Bistro in Westhoughton, Bolton, where he is head chef.??
Recently, a TikToker named Harisson Webb created a cheaper version of Salt Bae's Gold steak and the video got really viral.?
