Dreaming of charming your way into first-class seats by buttering up a flight attendant? Let's take a reality check.
Before those with lofty aspirations think sweet-talking their way to premium perks is a ticket to success, a flight attendant's viral revelation sheds light on why honeyed words and excessive flattery won't secure access to the exclusive VIP zone.
25-year-old flight attendant Destanie Armstrong spilled all the beans in a TikTok video that has gone viral since it was first posted on the platform.
Armstrong declared, ¡°Our airline considers it as stealing.¡± Her advice followed an online inquiry about the frequency of cunning economy travellers attempting to snag a luxurious first-class upgrade. ¡°We never allow that,¡± she added.
Armstrong did not reveal the details of her employer but she explained, ¡°If someone wants to switch cabins or even get an upgrade, that¡¯s to be dealt with [by] the gate agent.¡±
She continued, ¡°Flight attendants do not deal with any of that.¡± Armstrong, straight-shooting as ever, elaborated that attempting to maneuver into priority seating is usually a futile effort, given that those coveted seats are typically occupied by individuals who have purchased them outright.
Armstrong explained, ¡°Usually first class is always full. So, people don¡¯t really have the room to pull some stupid stuff [like sneaking a seat].¡±
According to Armstrong, in those rare instances when a premium seat opens up, frequent flyers armed with a bit of extra cash or airline credits might just clinch that coveted spot.
¡°If you have a credit card or if you have some status with the airline, [gate attendants] usually end up upgrading people by the time the flight is ready to take off,¡± she pointed out.
