In order to avoid an?arranged marriage, a bachelor from the UK has gone viral after he put up a billboard ad with his own photo.
Billboard ads featuring personal requests are quite common in many countries, especially in India. People are known to put up all sorts of requests and offers. Some of them can be quite bizarre.
In the UK, 29-year-old Mohammed Malik put up at least three 20-foot billboards across Birmingham with a plea that reads, "Save me from an arranged marriage."
The billboards feature a giant photo of the man himself and a website for netizens to share leads about potential dates - FindMalikAWife.com.
The website has a video where Malik introduces himself and talks about his hobbies.
¡°Hi, I¡¯m Malik. You may have seen my face on a billboard somewhere. I¡¯m 29, live in la Vida London. I¡¯m an entrepreneur and a foodie and I¡¯m religious," says Malik.
¡°I am looking for someone who is working on her deen. [I] come from a loud Punjabi family, so the banter has to be 100," he adds.
The About Me section of the website has links to his Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok profiles. There is a 'What I'm looking for' section that mentions his requirements.
¡°My ideal partner would be a Muslim woman in her 20s, who's striving to better her deen. I'm open to any ethnicity but I've got a loud Punjabi family - so you'd need to keep with the bants. P.S I'm an only child and look after my mom and dad. If this is a deal-breaker I don't think it'll work out,¡± it reads.
At the bottom of the homepage, there is a form that asks for contenders¡¯ names, emails,?and a brief introduction.
The FAQ section of the page states that Malik is not against arranged marriage but he is trying to find someone on his own.
"Not at all! I think arranged marriages have a place and tradition in many Islamic cultures. In fact, there are many studies that show that arranged marriages have many advantages. I just want to try and find someone on my own first," it reads.??
