According to Bloomberg,?Indonesia is working on offering a special five-year visa to international employees of Airbnb, Twitter, and several other companies that have started allowing their employees to work remotely.?
It was put on hold after a new COVID-19 wave led to fewer flights and stricter border controls.?Tourists who get the visa are permitted to stay in the country for up to five years without paying taxes if their income comes from outside the country. According to Tourism Minister Sandiaga Uno, Indonesia hopes that the move will create 1 million jobs for locals.
This visa will allow you to stay and work in the country for up to five years without paying tax on foreign-sourced income.¡°If they earn an income within Indonesia, they will be taxed, but if it¡¯s solely from overseas, there will be zero tax,¡± Tourism and Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno said.?
According to the Minister, approximately 95% of "digital nomads" interviewed chose Indonesia, specifically Bali, as their "top of mind" remote work location.
Apply for a work permit:?
You'll need an IMTA (Ijin Mempekerjakan Tenaga Kerja Asing), also known as an IKTA, to work in Indonesia (Expatriate Work Permit). It will be sponsored by the company that hires you.?
Obtain a valid residence proof:?
You'll need a new IMTA if you move jobs. You will need a residence permit in Indonesia in addition to your work permit. Your employer will also sponsor the Kartu Izin Tinggal Terbatas (KITAS), or Temporary Stay Permit Card.
