The OG Baba Yaga aka Keanu Reeves is back, and he is not done collecting bodies. After leaving fans questioning whether John Wick truly met his end in Chapter 4, Lionsgate has confirmed that Keanu Reeves will return for John Wick: Chapter 5. The revelation, made at CinemaCon, has sent the internet into an absolute frenzy¡ªbecause if there is one thing the world agrees on, it is that John Wick does not go down without a fight.
Reeves will reunite with director Chad Stahelski, as well as producers Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee, ensuring that the high-octane action and intricate world-building that made John Wick a global phenomenon will remain intact. Adam Fogelson, the head of Lionsgate¡¯s Motion Picture Group, reassured fans that this sequel is not just a cash grab, stating that the team would only return if they had something ¡°phenomenal and fresh¡± to bring to the table.
For those still reeling from the events of John Wick: Chapter 4, where our beloved assassin seemingly succumbed to his wounds after a dramatic duel, the news of his return might come as a shock. However, Stahelski previously revealed that an alternate ending showed Wick very much alive¡ªso, was he ever truly dead? Or was his demise just a clever illusion? Either way, the assassin is ready to rack up another kill count.
But that is not all¡ªJohn Wick¡¯s world is expanding faster than a bullet from a Glock. Donnie Yen¡¯s Caine, a fan-favourite from Chapter 4, is officially getting his own spin-off film, with Yen directing and starring. The project is set to kick off production in Hong Kong later this year, promising a stylish martial arts spectacle.
And for those who have always wondered what Wick was like before the madness of the High Table, an anime prequel is in the works. With Reeves on board as a producer and director Shannon Tindle leading the charge, the animated film will explore John Wick¡¯s origins and his infamous ¡°Impossible Task.¡± Stahelski called anime the ¡°perfect medium¡± for expanding the John Wick universe, teasing that the action and world-building will reach new heights.
While there is no release date yet for Chapter 5, Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas, will hit cinemas on June 6, bringing another dose of bullet-ridden mayhem. The Wickiverse is growing, and if there is one thing we have learned¡ªit is never over for John Wick.
