Barbie Hsu sadly passed away on February 2 while traveling in Japan with her family during the Lunar Holiday. The cause of death was confirmed to be acute pneumonia, which was likely triggered by influenza.
Her husband, Koo Jun-yup, also known as DJ Koo, has spoken out to confirm the news, slamming the fake news allegations. "I am not okay," the grieving husband told Ilgan Sports., adding, "It is not fake news."
Barbie Hsu and DJ Koo's love story was a real-life fairy tale, with a 20-year gap between their first romance and their second chance at love.
The duo first dated in 2000 after meeting in Taiwan at a concert but were forced to break up due to his agency's ban on romantic relationships. They reconnected in 2021, after Barbie's divorce from her ex-husband Wang Xiaofei, and got married in March 2022.
DJ Koo had previously spoken about their past relationship on a talk show and even penned a heartfelt letter on Instagram announcing their engagement, which Barbie reposted. In the letter, he shared the story of how they reconnected after 20 years and how he decided to propose to her after hearing about her divorce.
Announcing his marriage to Barbie, Koo told his fans, "I am getting married. I want to share the story of someone that I loved 20 years ago. After hearing about her divorce, I found her number from 20 years ago and contacted her. Luckily, her number was the same, and we were able to connect again."
He added, "Because so much time had already passed, I decided I couldn¡¯t waste any more time and asked her to marry me. She agreed, and we have decided to live together after signing a marriage certificate. As this is a late marriage, I hope that everyone can support and congratulate us. Thank you."
