The fashion industry suffered an irreparable loss with the passing of legendary designer Rohit Bal on November 1, 2024. Rohit Bal, who passed away at the age of 63 after battling a heart ailment was an industry stalwart who redefined the Indian fashion scene with his opulent designs. Known for his unique eye for fashion and imaginative designs, Bal showcased his most recent and sadly last collection, 'Kaaynaat: A Bloom in the Universe' at the final of FDCI X Lakme Fashion Week, last month.
The fashion and the Hindi film industry was shaken by the news of his sad demise and many B-town actors like Kareena Kapoor, Ananya Panday, and Manish Malhotra paid tribute to the designer with heartfelt posts. Fashionista Sonam Kapoor who has played muse to the talented designer multiple times paid homage to him and styled vintage pieces from his collection for her Diwali 2024 look.
Sonam took to her Instagram stories to share that she was on her way to a Diwali party wearing a carefully curated look by styling pieces from Rohit Bal's 2015 and 2016 collection when she learnt the news of his passing. She penned a heartfelt note for him saying, "Dear Gudda, I hear about your passing on my way to celebrate Diwali in your gorgeous creation that you generously lent to me for the second time." She further added, "I've been blessed to have known you and worn you and walked for you multiple times. I hope you are at peace. Always your biggest fan."
With the note, Sonam went on to share photos with the designer of where she walked for him in the past as well as a screenshot of a conversation she had to congratulate him on his latest collection last month.
Styled by her sister and celebrity fashion stylist Rhea Kapoor, Sonam wore a white floor-length gown from the designer's 2024 collection 'Kaynaat' featuring intricate embroidery on the neckline. She paired the stunning white gown with a matching neckpiece that the designer first showcased in 2015 as part of his collection 'Husn-e-Taihrat'. The statement neckpiece was designed to look like 3D rosettes made from fabric. To tie the whole look together, Sonam styled one more piece from Bal's 2016 collection 'Kroshni' - a floor-length gold-hued cape which was made of cut-out floral details.?
She accessorised her outfit with gold-toned statement stud earrings. To complement her dramatic look, Sonam opted for full glam makeup featuring shimmery eye shadow, black eyeliner and kajal on the waterline, mascara-coated lashes, defined eyebrows, rosy cheeks, a luminous highlighter, a peach-hued lip shade. Last;y she styled her hair in a sleek, pulled-back bun.
