A 12-year-old boy shot and killed a home intruder in self-defense after two armed suspects broke into his home and shot his 73-year-old grandmother, according to various reports.
The?New York Post?reported that?two masked men forced their way into Linda Ellis' residence in US' North Carolina, demanding money. At least one of the suspects, identified as 19-year-old Khalil Herring, was armed ¨C and allegedly shot Ellis.??

The suspected robbers demanded money and shot Ellis in the leg, prompting the 12-year-old to open fire, local reports said citing the police.
"They came in the house, I open the door, I open it, and they came in there.... One guy had a gun. They just put me down on the ground," Randolph Bunn, the woman's son, told ABC News. Bunn is also the great-uncle of the child who fired the gun.

The woman was in the kitchen when the robbers confronted her. "I don't know why they shot her," Bunn added.?
The gunfire caused the intruders to flee, but one suspect, Herring, 19, was found at a nearby intersection suffering from a gunshot wound, police said.
He was brought to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.?Meanwhile, Ellis was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries, authorities said.
As per reports, the local police said charges against the 12-year-old are not anticipated but an investigation is underway.
No information was released about the second suspect, but authorities are on the lookout for him.?
