After food delivery platform Zomato dealt with public fury recently, it seems now it's McDonald's turn.
McDonald's apparently is facing flak on social media over whether the fast food company serves Jhatka or Halal meat to its customers. It all started after a Twitter user asked the company whether their restaurants are Halal certified. McDonald's then accepted that it does serve Halal meat to its customers.?
¡®All our restaurants have HALAL certificates. You can ask the respective restaurant Managers to show you the certificate for your satisfaction and confirmation,¡¯ wrote McDonalds.?
After this response, the company was attacked by people on social media. A user wrote, ¡®McDonald's we Hindus want jatka meat," posted an angry user while another wrote: "I don't want to eat needlessly cruel halal meat. What option do I have? Or should I not eat at McDonald's?¡¯
The response irked many users who blasted the fast food company for serving Halal meat to a nation where 80 per cent people are non-Muslims. Another user tweeted, ¡®Dear @McDonalds, per your response, should I understand that your products are not meant for non-Muslims in India? Do let me know.¡¯

It¡¯s 2019 and it is sad to see people on social media, living in a nation that celebrates democracy, secularism with pride, get into such a petty thing. The most important thing is - what you eat is your choice. There's no bigotry in that. The bigotry lies in the fact that we're discriminating against something on the basis of religion.?
1. In July, one customer named Amit Shukla cancelled his Zomato order because the food delivery guy - Faiyaz - was a ¡®non-Hindu¡¯. He also said that Zomato was forcing him to take deliveries from people he didn't want delivering his food and was refusing to refund his money for the order.
But Zomato was not ready to sit quietly and take this insult. They shared a post online with the caption: 'Food doesn't have a religion. It is a religion'.
Soon ater the delivery guy also shared his side of the story and it was really sad. He told PTI,?"This hurts me, but what can I do... we are poor people who are meant to put up with things like these."
2. After the Hindu-Muslim debacle, a few days back, Zomato landed in religion-related controversy again. Zomato delivery boys planned to go on a strike on Monday to protest that the food that they deliver is affecting their religious sentiments. The delivery boys refused to deliver beef or pork during the celebration of Bakrid or Eid al-Adha.
After this people on social media asked ¡®Food has no religion?'
