Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his wife, Sophie, have decided to separate after an 18-year marriage. The news came with a statement from the Prime Minister's office, confirming that they have already signed a legal agreement.?
"They have worked to ensure that all legal and ethical steps with regards to their decision to separate have been taken and will continue to do so moving forward,"?read the official statement.
"They remain a close family, and Sophie and the Prime Minister are focused on raising their kids in a safe, loving, and collaborative environment,"?said the statement.?"The family will be together on vacation beginning next week."
In May 2005, the couple exchanged vows in Montreal, and since then, they have been proud parents to three children: 14-year-old Ella-Grace, 15-year-old Xavier, and their youngest, nine-year-old Hadrien.
Throughout their marriage, there have been no rumors or indications of any issues or rift in the relationship of the Trudeaus.
The statement from the PMO, quoted by CBC, added,?"They have worked to ensure that all legal and ethical steps with regards to their decision to separate have been taken, and will continue to do so moving forward."
As the outlet Globe and Mail reported, the 51-year-old Trudeau first met his wife, Sophie Gregoire, a former entertainment journalist, in 2003.
"Both parents will be constantly present in their children¡¯s lives, and Canadians can expect to see the family often together. The family will be together on vacation beginning next week," the PMO also said in its statement.
