Climate activists often grab media attention in unique ways to be able to make people hear their demands. There has been a rise in such incidents where climate activists were throwing stuff at museum paintings.?
Recently, a pair of women threw tomato soup in London and now it's mashed potatoes in Germany. Here's what happened.?
On Sunday, a pair of climate activists splashed a can of mashed potatoes all over a?Claude Monet?painting at a German?museum as seen in a video, posted on Twitter by user, @AufstandLastGen, an environmental protest group called Last Generation. The protestors asked what has more worth, art or life, and added that the artist whose painting they covered in the edible paste, loved nature. The painting, which was seemingly destroyed, fetched USD 111 million at an auction in 2019, the highest sum paid for a Monet painting ever.?
They posted the video of the act and wrote, which closely translates to this, "#Kartoffelbrei on #Monet :What is worth more #F¨¹rAlle - art or life?Monet loved nature and captured its fragile beauty in his works. Why are many more afraid of one of these images being damaged than of the destruction of our world itself?"?
The activists, who were dressed in black and orange vests, poured mashed potatoes on the painting before sitting in front of it and sticking a hand each on the wall.?"Does it take mashed potatoes on a painting to get you to listen? This painting is not going to be worth anything if we have to fight over food," said one of the two activists in the video that was recorded?on the scene.?
Reportedly, both the activist were taken into custody and are under investigation for damage to property and trespassing. The museum officials have informed that the?painting was protected by glass and that the experts have assessed that it has not suffered any damage.
