Diwali 2022: Dhanteras To Bhai Dooj - Date, Timing And Shubh Muhurat
Diwali or Deepawali does not just come alone every year it comes with four others like Dhanteras or Dhan Trayodashi, Narak Chaturdashi or Kali Chaudas, also known as Choti Diwali, Diwali, Govardhan Puja.

Dhanteras or Dhan Trayodashi
Dhanteras, also known as Dhantrayodashi, marks the beginning of the five-day-long festival of Diwali. According to the Hindu calendar, Dhanteras is celebrated on the Trayodashi of Krishna Paksha of Kartik month, and exactly two days after the festival of Diwali is celebrated. This year it will be celebrated on 22 October 2022.

Narak Chaturdashi or Kali Chaudas, also known as Choti Diwali
Chhoti Diwali also known as Narak Chaturdashi is another important festival among Hindus which falls on Chaturdashi Tithi of Krishna Paksha of Kartik month. Every year this auspicious festival is celebrated the day after Dhanteras and the day before Diwali and this year it falls on 23 October 2022, Sunday. It is believed that once a demon named Narakasura gained a lot of powers and took thousands of young girls captive. He used to torture them by misusing his power.
All the women worshipped Lord Krishna and sought his help, and then Krishna killed Narakasura and saved all the girls. The girls were embarrassed and afraid of a social boycott, so Lord Krishna accepted all the girls as his wives. Since then people celebrate this day as Choti Diwali or Narak Chaturdashi by lighting diyas, making Rangoli at home, and lighting firecrackers.

Diwali
Diwali is an auspicious Hindu festival-- falling on the new moon of Kartik month--that comes after 20 days of celebration of Dussehra every year and lasts for five days from Dhanteras to Bhai Dooj. Diwali will be celebrated on the third day which is Monday, October 24, 2022, or the fifteenth day of the month of Kartika as per the Hindu calendar.
Diwali is the most important and auspicious festival of India which is dedicated to Lord Rama and that's not just celebrated in India but around the world with great pomp and enthusiasm. According to the scriptures, on this day Lord Rama along with his wife mother Site and brother Laxman returned to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile after killing Lanka King Ravana on Kartik Amavasya. The people of Ayodhya were very happy to hear about their king Ram's victory and homecoming, and so they lit up the entire kingdom with earthen lamps and decorated their homes and fireworks to celebrate the return of their king. Since then it has remained a tradition that millions of people follow even today.

Amavasya tithi ends at 04:18 PM on October 25, 2022.
According to the Hindu calendar, Chaturdashi Tithi will end on October 24 at 5:28 pm and Amavasya Tithi will start and remain till 4.19 pm on October 25. That means the festival of light begins at 5.28 pm, October 24, 2022, and ends at 4.19 pm, October 25, 2022. Lakshmi Puja Muhurta is from 6.54 pm to 8:18 pm (Duration - 01 Hour 24 Mins) on October 24.
Govardhan Puja
Usually, Govardhan Puja takes place next day after Diwali, but due to the Solar Eclipse of 2022 this year it will fall a day later on October 26, Wednesday. It is believed that going to temples and worshipping is inauspicious during the eclipse. It is believed that when the villagers of Gokul stopped worshipping Lord Indra, he decided to punish them by sending terrible rain clouds to flood the land of Vrindavan in anger and ravaged the land, and submerged it under water. The residents of Gokul were terrified of Indra and approached Lord Krishna. Then Shri Krishna lifted the Govardhan hill on his little finger to save the cattle and the people of Gokul.
Since then the tradition of Govardhan Puja started. On this day people make small hills out of cow dung and soil and worship Lord Krishna by preparing Chappan Bhog (56 types of food). Devotees bathe the idols of Lord Krishna with milk and put on new clothes and ornaments for the idols.

Bhai dooj
Bhai Dooj is the most auspicious and important festival among brothers and sisters which is also celebrated with great pomp and enthusiasm across the country on the last day of the five-day festival. The festival of Bhai Dooj symbolises the unconditional love between a brother and a sister. This year Bhai Dooj will be celebrated on 26 October 2022, Wednesday. Govardhan Puja is also celebrated on the same day this year.
On this auspicious day, sisters apply tilak on the forehead of their brothers and then perform aarti. Then they hand him dry coconut tied and feed each other sweets. After Tilak, the brothers give gifts to their sisters. On this day, like Raksha Bandhan, sisters pray for the long life and well-being of their beloved brothers, while brothers promise to always protect them.
There are many mythological stories behind the Bhai Dooj festival. It is believed that after killing the demon Narakasura, Lord Krishna went to his sister Subhadra, where he warmly welcomed his brother with sweets and flowers and applied tilak on his forehead. Since then this festival is celebrated as 'Bhai Dooj'.
