Toxic workplaces and difficult bosses are all too familiar, but a recent incident involving a top executive from Neom in Saudi Arabia takes it to a whole new level. After the tragic death of three workers at a construction site, the executive not only lashed out over a Sunday evening meeting but also made unsettlingly racist remarks about workers from the Indian subcontinent.
A shocking incident involving Neom executives has come to light in a recent Wall Street Journal (WSJ)?report.
According to the revelatory report, the high-profile Neom project in Saudi Arabia, valued at a staggering $500 billion, faced a crisis management meeting after the tragic deaths of three workers on site.
Neom, an audacious mega-city initiative announced in 2017 by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, promises to be a futuristic marvel¡ª33 times the size of New York City and a global tourism hotspot.
Wayne Borg, a former Hollywood executive brought in to lead Neom's media division, reportedly reacted with startling insensitivity when a meeting was called after the workers' deaths.
During the emergency meeting held on a Sunday evening, Borg expressed frustration over his disrupted plans. "A whole bunch of people die so we've got to have a meeting on a Sunday night?" he reportedly said in the recording of the meeting that WSJ heard and quoted.
He further went on to make derogatory remarks about the project's workers from the Indian subcontinent and said they were "f¡ªing morons," asserting that "white people are at the top of the pecking order."
"You can't train for stupidity. The white blokes are at the top of the tree," Borg commented.
Neom has responded by condemning such behavior and ensuring a thorough investigation into the matter.
