Karwa Chauth 2024 city-wise moonrise time: Karwa Chauth, also called Karaka Chaturthi, is an important Hindu festival celebrated by women across the country with great joy. This festival usually takes place in October or November, on the fourth day after the full moon in the Hindu month of Kartik. In 2024, Karwa Chauth will be celebrated on Sunday, October 18th.
On this day, married women fast from sunrise to moonrise, meaning they do not eat or drink anything. They pray for their husbands to have long and happy lives and for their safety.
The day starts with sargi, a special meal eaten before sunrise that mothers-in-law prepare for their daughters-in-law. In the evening, women gather together to perform the Karwa Chauth Puja, where they pray to the moon and break their fasts. Husbands play an important part in making Karwa Chauth special by supporting their wives and making them feel loved.
Women look forward to the moonrise to end their fast. It is believed that the moon looks especially beautiful on Karwa Chauth. According to Drik Panchang, the moon is expected to rise at 7:41 p.m. on Sunday, October 20th, which is the day of Karwa Chauth.

Let¡¯s take a closer look at the rituals (Puja Vidhi )of Karwa Chauth.
The day of Karwa Chauth starts with a sacred vow, or Sankalp. After taking a morning bath, women promise to fast for the health and long life of their husbands and the well-being of their families. This vow means they will not eat or drink anything until they see the moon.

"I vow to observe the Karak Chaturthi fast for the well-being of my husband, sons, and grandsons, and to attain everlasting prosperity."
Before the fast starts, the mother-in-law has an important role. She gives her daughter-in-law a special pre-dawn meal called "Sargi." This meal is nutritious and usually includes sweet dishes, fruits, nuts, and sometimes fried foods. It helps women who are fasting to stay strong throughout the day.
On Karwa Chauth, women wear traditional and bright clothes, such as sarees or suits. They often put henna (mehndi) on their hands and feet, which is both beautiful and a sign of love and devotion.
The best time for Karwa Chauth Puja is during Sandhya, which begins after sunset. The exact timings for the Puja can vary by location, so it's important to check the local timings for your city.
Women usually come together for the Puja, either drawing a picture of Goddess Gaura and Chauth Mata (forms of Goddess Parvati) on the wall or using a printed Puja calendar. The main focus of the Puja is to ask for blessings from Goddess Parvati, Lord Shiva, Lord Kartikeya, and Lord Ganesha.

"O beloved consort of Lord Shiva, please grant a long life to my husband and bless me with beautiful sons."
After worshipping Goddess Parvati and her family, the women tell the Karwa Chauth Vrat Katha, which is a story about the importance and power of the fast. This story, shared through generations, deepens the spiritual connection and devotion linked to the fast.
After finishing the Puja, the Karwa (a small pitcher) is filled with water or milk, and precious items like stones or coins are added. This Karwa is then given to a Brahmin or a married woman (Suhagan) as charity.

"I offer this milk-filled Karwa, adorned with precious stones, for the long life of my husband."
The last and most important ritual of Karwa Chauth is worshipping the Moon God (Chandra Dev). After the moon rises, women offer Argha (sacred water) and prayers to the moon, asking for its blessings for their husband¡¯s long life. They break their fast only after this offering, usually with a sip of water or a bite of food given by their husband.
Happy Karwa Chauth 2024 to all!!
