In light of the recent farmers protests, a family from Punjab asked their relatives and friends to donate money for the same instead of giving them wedding gifts.?
A special donation box was placed inside the venue and people were requested to make generous donations.?
"Instead of paying us?'shagun'?money for the couple, please donate for the farmers protesting in Delhi. This money will be used to provide food, warm clothes and other essentials to the farmers," an announcer is saying in a video clip from the wedding event.
The incident took place in Punjab's Muktsar, around 250 kilometres from Chandigarh.

Indian farmers have been protesting against the three new farms laws which they believe will bring a drop in their income. They also believe they will be at the receiving end of exploitation from big corporate houses. However, the Central government believes that the new laws will bring new options to the farmers as they will be allowed to sell their product wherever they want to.?
However, no fruitful outcome has been established yet.?
Farmers want the Centre to retract the laws; Home Minister Amit Shah met with the farmers last evening.?

In another incident, a farmer from Amroha missed out on his daughter's wedding to support his community at the protests. 58-year-old Subhash Cheema watched the ceremony through video call arranged by his family members. He believed that his presence was required more at the protests in order to stand up for his livelihood.?
