Excavations over the years have led to some bizarre finds across the world. In the latest excavations at a Neolithic site in Turkey¡¯s southeastern province of ?anl?urfa, a fascinating five-figure relief dating to the Neolithic period was unearthed.
Featuring both animals and humans, the relief is believed to be a composition. However, the?most striking figure in this relief is a frontal depiction of a?male figure holding his phallus with one hand.?
The excavations are being carried out by Istanbul University and ?anl?urfa Archeology Museum,?Arkeonews?reported.
Turkey houses a vast number of prehistoric sites including the?UNESCO World Heritage site?of G?beklitepe. There are many sites across Turkey?that are believed to be the earliest examples of sedentary settlements and organized and specialized labour in?human history.?
Saybur?, the site where the figure was unearthed, was found earlier this year after the??anl?urfa Archeology Museum?was informed that obelisks parts were used in the garden walls of the village.?
Considered to be contemporary with the last periods of?G?bekli Tepe,?the Saybur? is also one of the Ta? Tepes in ?anl?urfa, which consists of G?bekli Tepe and eleven other archaeological sites around it.
