Even when we are surrounded by people in public places, we could be potential targets for predators. Young girls and women are advised to be careful of such dangerous people and always ask for help if they are approached by a stranger who makes them uncomfortable.?
However, sometimes, it is not as easy to ask strangers for help, but it makes us have faith in humanity when someone else notices that something is wrong.?
Recently, a Starbucks employee from Texas left the mother of a high school teenager very impressed and thankful. The mother thanked the barista for his quick thinking that probably kept his daughter safe.?
Taking to Facebook, the mother said the employee gave her high-school-aged daughter a drink with a message written on the cup, asking whether she felt safe with a man who was talking to her.
The post revealed that the teenage daughter was visiting a Starbucks shop on Staples Street and S. Padre Island Drive when she was approached by a stranger.
The mother added that her daughter was sitting inside the cafe with her school work when the strange man walked up to her and started talking. The young girl had no clue who the man was.?
Noticing the unusual interaction, the staff at the cafe wanted to ensure that the teenager is safe. They wanted to do the same in a subtle but effective way.
"She was sitting at her table alone studying and this man came by and noticed what she was studying and wanted to talk to her about it," the mother posted on Facebook.
The staff took an "extra hot chocolate" that had a note attached to it. It read: "Are you okay? Do you want us to intervene? If you do, take the lid off the cup."
The message was written on the cup, not the lid and the staff told the girl that taking the lid off would work as a signal for them to come to her rescue. "How grateful I am for people who look out for other people," the mother ended the now-deleted post.
