This is not the first time Model Y has been spotted with no camouflage, whatsoever. Earlier as well, a Tesla Model Y was spotted in the same paint as the one spotted in Pune.?
The latest Model Y was spotted by an enthusiast, Nitesh Borane, in Pune. The photo of the vehicle was shared on Tesla Club India's twitter handle.?
In international markets,?both the 5 and 7-seat models of the Model Y are offered on the same platform as the Tesla Model 3. It is also similar to the Model 3 as both car shares many components with each other such as the front section, wide LED taillights and more.
The car is available with both AWD and performance options. On both trim levels, dual electric motors are offered along with all-wheel drive. A full charge range of 505 km has been claimed for the Long Range, compared to 480 km for the Performance,?CarAndBike?reported.??
Model Y, along with Model 3, are Tesla's most affordable cars, and its expected the company will? start its operations in India with either of its two mentioned models.?
The development comes at a time when Tesla owner Elon Musk and Indian government continue to be a loggerheads over import duty for cars.?
Musk has been periodically tweeting, seeking a cut in import duty. In a tweet last month, he had said: ¡°Still working through a lot of challenges with the government."
The Heavy Industries Ministry had asked the electric car major to first start manufacturing its iconic electric vehicles in India before any tax concessions can be considered.??
According to a report in The Hindu, the government has noted that they were not giving such concessions to any auto firm, and giving duty benefits to Tesla will not send a good signal to other companies that have invested billions of dollars in India.??
In January 2021, Tesla registered its Indian arm amid indications that the company is set to enter the country's automobile market.
According to a regulatory filing, the firm registered Tesla India Motors and Energy Pvt. Ltd. with RoC (Registrar Of Companies) Bangalore.
The company has been registered as an unlisted private entity with a paid-up capital of ?1 lakh.
