Tesla?is not a typical automaker. Known for its world-class technology and safety measures, in most ways?it closely resembles a Silicon Valley technology startup.?
The company's cars are also renowned for their advanced?autopilot or remote driving features that lets people control the vehicles without being behind the wheel. Now, the company latest software update lets drivers use their car into a megaphone to communicate with their surroundings, Electrek reported.?
In a demonstration shared to Twitter, Tesla showed a driver shouting "excuse me, you dropped something" at someone dressed as Santa after a gift fell from their arms.? ??
The update is?only available in newer Tesla models (2019 or later) because the feature uses external speakers that were installed in recent Tesla vehicles to meet?US regulations. These regulations stipulate that otherwise silent electric cars should be able to alert pedestrians to their presence at low speeds.
As part of its holiday update last year, Tesla released a ¡°Boombox¡± feature that let owners play pre-recorded sounds through the speaker.
Now with this year¡¯s update, the automaker is updating the ¡°Boombox¡± feature to add a ¡°megaphone¡± option that lets drivers literally use the feature as if it¡¯s a megaphone.??
¡°Our new Boombox Megaphone allows you to project your voice via your car¡¯s external speaker ¡ª perfect for announcing to your friends when it¡¯s time to load up and head out!¡± the company wrote in a blog post.??
As well as adding new functionality to its cars, Tesla recently said it would be?removing a feature that let drivers play video games while driving.??
Sticking to Tesla,?a woman in US' Philadelphia gave birth in the front seat of a?Tesla?while it was operating on autopilot.?
Yiran Sherry, 33, was riding with her husband, Keating Sherry, 34, and three-year-old son Rafa when the remarkable delivery took place in September,?The?Philadelphia Inquirer?reported.? ?
It was reported that?that Yiran's water broke while the family was stuck in traffic.?With contractions increasing rapidly and traffic barely moving, the couple realized they won't be able to make it to the hospital.?
Her?husband?then placed the vehicle on autopilot after setting the satellite navigation to the hospital which was 20 minutes away in the western suburb of Paoli.
He said he laid one hand gently on the car¡¯s steering wheel as he attended to his wife.
By the time the electric vehicle¡¯s autopilot mode had them at the hospital doors, Yiran had delivered her baby girl.??
