The internet has transformed the world into a smaller realm, allowing for quick communication with others via email, social media, and other messaging apps.?
Aside from communications, social media has enabled us to share the most wonderful moments of our lives through photos and videos. Do you know about the first pictures submitted to the internet?
According to CBS News, the first photograph released online was of the female parody group Les Horribles Cernettes, also known as the Horrible CERN Girls.?
According to the article, the first photograph was uploaded on July 18, 1992. Silvano de Gennaro, the band's photographer and composer, disputed the report in an interview with Metro.co.uk. Silvano stated that it is a hoax, and it is impossible to determine which photo was the first available on the platform built by computer scientist Tim Berners-Lee. Les Horribles Cernettes' shot was taken at the CERN Hardronic Festival.
According to Metro, Cern, located in a northwest suburb of Geneva, Switzerland, employs thousands of people. These employees are scientists and office workers from around the world.?
Silvano's wife, Michele, noted that living at Cern is like living in a little international city complete with restaurants, kindergartens, cafes, and bars. According to her, these facilities bring a flourishing social scene as well.?
At the time, Silvano's colleague Berners-Lee decided to develop a website listing some of Cern's extracurricular activities. His intern selected a photo of the Cernettes band to include information about the organization's music club, of which he was a member.?
"In the way it was the first picture there was not strictly physics," Silvano stated in an interview.?
It demonstrated that there were artists and there was life. If not the first image uploaded to the internet, he described it as "the picture that opened the web to the world."?
