Many people dream of buying a home, but what if someone decided to purchase an entire village? A four-person family in Manchester, United Kingdom, sold their three-bedroom semi-detached house and purchased an entire French village. Dream deal right??
Before opting to sell their ?400,000 (Rs 4.14 crore) property and immigrate, Liz and David Murphy were leading a fast-paced lifestyle. With the money they had amassed over the years, the couple purchased a medieval hamlet in the southwest of France in January 2021.?
Surprisingly, according to the Mirror, the cost of their Manchester semi-home was comparable to that of six 400-year-old homes in the French region of Poitou-Charentes. In addition to six residences, their budget also allowed them to purchase two barns, three acres of land, and two restored 10 x 15-metre swimming pools.?
Before purchasing the six abandoned buildings for ?300,000 (Rs 3.10 crore), the pair worked in the radio sector. They have now renovated the properties into residences for their family and started a vacation rental business. The couple and her two kids, Tom and Charlotte, moved into the biggest house last year.?
Liz's mother Helen and her stepfather Terry live on the block across the street from their home. The family made a wonderful investment by converting the four remaining houses into vacation homes for visitors, which can generate a sizable amount of income each week once the business is up and running.?
The family claimed that despite their struggles with French, they are currently living the life of "millionaires" and have no desire to return to their hectic lifestyle in the UK. Liz said to the reporters that they had busy schedules, 9 to 5 jobs, and the kids were enrolled in after-school activities that seemed like an "endless treadmill."?
The pair, however, realised that life was passing them by after the pandemic. "We discovered that we hadn't spent much time with the kids and determined that something needed to be done to change our lives as a whole."?
"For many years, we had discussed relocating to France. We immediately did it because we had this want to, she stated. One of the large barns has been transformed into a playground and a workshop, Liz added. It's like winning the jackpot without knowing it," she continued.?
David continued by expressing his astonishment at learning that their Manchester property could purchase a complete village in France.?
Additionally, he noted that although the populations of the two nations are comparable, France is more affordable and larger, thus there was no problem with space.?
David added that the septic tank flooding problems they encountered when they initially saw the residences were due to a lack of electricity. They moved into a caravan when they first arrived in France because they didn't have anywhere else to stay while they restored their mother's home.
