With Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the world's collective heart is aching for the people of Europe's second-largest country. Cities bombed, children separated from families, lovers joining the army to defend their country, Ukrainians are displaced but standing their ground.?
Ukrainian President?Volodymyr Zelenskyy was falsely reported of fleeing the country but the politician posted a video of him in Kyiv along with other members of his party and said that he will fight for his country till the end. When the United States of America offered evacuation to him, he rejected it and said, "Need Ammo, not a ride."
"We're all here. Our military is here. Citizens in society are here. We're all here defending our independence, our country, and it will stay this way," Zelensky said, standing outside the presidency building.
On the civilian end of things, a young couple, who were due to get married later this year pulled the date early, and have now joined the Ukrainian defence forces.?21-year-old Yaryna and 24-year Sviatoslav were all set to get hitched in May but after Russian President Vladimir Putin decided to invade their country, they changed their plans and joined the army. They tied the knot in a monastery in Kyiv?and were later spotted armed with AK-47s.
A video showed an old Ukrainian lady confronting heavily armed Russian soldiers.?The unidentified woman in the video can be heard threatening one of the soldiers and saying, "Put sunflower seeds in your pockets so they grow on Ukraine soil when you die."
Another instance of bravery is this 80-year-old man who showed up to join the Ukrainian army, carrying with him a small case with 2 t-shirts, a pair of extra pants, a toothbrush and a few sandwiches for lunch. According to a tweet posted by Asaad Hanna, the elderly man said he was doing it for his grandkids.?
Exhibiting immense heroism were the 13 martyred border guards on Snake Island who told an approaching Russian warship to 'go fuck yourself' when they were asked to surrender. An audio clip of the exchange surfaced on social media and was reported by several news agencies. The soldiers were killed after they refused to surrender, and will forever be known for their brave yet heartbreaking sacrifice.?
A Ukrainian soldier sacrificed his life after?blowing himself up?along with a bridge in Crimea in order to stop Russian troops from entering and?allowing his battalion some more time to?regroup against the incoming attacks.?
