In the UK, drivers often get frustrated with unclear road signs, but French drivers face challenges. In a village across the Channel, they've painted squiggly lines at a T-junction to try and make drivers slow down. While it seems to work, residents aren't happy with these unconventional road signs.
The road markings resemble abstract art, zig-zagging across the street, causing even enthusiastic drivers to tap their brakes. These lines were added due to local worries about drivers consistently exceeding the tiny village's 19 mph (30 kph) speed limit.
The French authorities sought ways to reduce speed and ultimately chose the unusual approach of these peculiar markings.?
Interestingly, the unconventional design was favored over traditional traffic control methods, as explained by Jean-Charles Prono, mayor of the Loire-Authion region.
Jean-Charles Prono, responsible for seven nearby villages, explained that making drivers slow down with conventional road signs is challenging. Instead of installing speed bumps, the town chose a unique design to avoid noise disturbances for residents. However, not everyone is fond of the artistic road.
A resident felt nauseous and seasick when driving over it, while others found it unsettling and disorienting.
Despite the intention to slow down traffic, some believe the unconventional approach might have unintended consequences. There's a mixed reaction among locals about this road transformation.
