Even as crimes of cruelty towards animals are increasing by the day, the government seems to have turned a blind eye to this matter of concern altogether. No case seems to be grave enough for policy makers to revise laws that define animal rights.?
In an appalling incident, a?female stray dog was shot with an air gun in Bengaluru by a doctor in Jayanagar area. The residents of the area woke up to a loud sound which was followed by the cries of the dog who was in pain and had three wound marks on her body. The doctor was allegedly fed up of the dogĄ¯s continuous barking.?
A resident called animal rescuers. The injured stray was rushed to Jeeva Pet Hospital in JP Nagar.?
"The dog was in an immense amount of pain when we arrived at the spot. She was shivering with fear. We picked her immediately and took her to the hospital," TNIE quoted an animal rescuer Parveen as saying.?
X-ray of the dog showed three bullets from an air gun inside the body.

"The bullets in the X-ray look like they are from an air gun. We need to stabilise the dog first as she is in a state of complete shock. Till then, we cannot perform any surgery on her. We are carrying out blood tests at the moment," Dr Sathish, senior veterinarian Doctor from Jeeva Pet Hospital reportedly said.?
Jaynagar MLA Sowmya Reddy said, "An FIR will be definitely filed and those responsible for the incident will be brought to task. It is very inhuman for people to do something like this. I hope the dog recovers soon."

Even after the lodging of an FIR, the doctor was soon released because getting a bail in cases of animal cruelty costs next to nothing.?
That is exactly the reason why even animal rescuers stress on the need to have stricter laws.
