While politicians and the public continue to slam Ranveer Allahbadia for his controversial joke¡ªtreating it as a national crisis more urgent than other issues¡ªthe internet has gone into full detective mode. Not only have they traced the joke's origins to an Australian comedy act, but now, another twist has emerged. Earlier, the internet had traced the origin of the joke to OG Crew's Truth or Drink, an Australian comedy show where host Sammy Walsh had asked the same question to Alan Fang.
One commenter summed up what many are thinking: "So Ranveer was telling a copied joke, and he got this much backlash for it... No words, man."
The controversy erupted on India's Got Latent, a reality show hosted by Samay Raina and entrepreneur Balraj Singh Ghai, known for its tagline, "An unnecessary reality show with no purpose¡ªjust like life."
The show, often making headlines for its edgy and unfiltered humour, found itself in trouble after a clip featuring guest Ranveer Allahbadia, aka BeerBiceps, went viral.?
In the video, he posed an extremely inappropriate question to a contestant: "Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once to stop it forever?"
The remark sparked outrage, with many calling it distasteful and offensive.?
Following the backlash, Allahbadia issued a public apology, admitting, "My comment wasn't just inappropriate, it was not even funny. Comedy is not my forte, I am just here to say sorry."
Legal trouble soon followed, with Assam Police being the first to file a case against those involved.?
Meanwhile, Bombay High Court advocates Ashish Ray and Pankaj Mishra formally urged Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phalsankar and the state women's commission to take action, arguing that the remarks on the show amounted to disrespecting women and warranted legal consequences.
