"I want to talk about IVF. I'm the father of IVF, so I want to hear this question," he declared.
Trump's comments come amid recent controversy, as Senate Republicans have twice blocked Democratic-led legislation aimed at protecting access to IVF, arguing that such measures are unnecessary since IVF access is not an issue.
However, Trump pushed back, claiming, "We really are the party for IVF. We want fertilization that is all the way, and the Democrats tried to attack us on it, and we're out there on IVF, even more than them."
Kamala Harris, responding to his remarks, called them "quite bizarre."?
She criticised Trump's stance, saying, "He should take responsibility for the fact that 1 in 3 women in America lives in a Trump's abortion ban state."
"Couples who are praying and hoping and working towards growing a family have been so disappointed and harmed by the fact that IVF treatments have now been put at risk," Harris added.
Trump's campaign spokesperson, Karoline Leavitt, later clarified, stating that Trump's comments were made in jest during an enthusiastic response about IVF, urging the media to "get a sense of humour."
