On June 1, India began its 'Unlock 1' phase where the central government allowed leniency on certain restrictions following yet more to be implemented from June 8.?
However, unlike other countries, the number of COVID-19 cases in India have only gone up, incidentally, ever since the first lockdown was announced. The purpose of the lockdown was to curb the spread of the coronavirus infection but unfortunately?that does not seem to be the case.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi shared the picture of a graph which shows COVID-19 cases in India in comparison to other countries like Spain, Italy, Germany and UK; the graph apparently shows how as the lockdown period progressed in other countries, the number of COVID-19 cases went down. India, on the other hand, witnessed a spike in coronavirus cases.?
For those talking about it online, this was evidence of a failed lockdown. Many took to Twitter to express their disappointment over the government's failed efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19.
Moreover, the decision to reopen public places like restaurants, religious establishments and malls from June 8 received its share of criticism.?We are nowhere close to herd immunity and allowing people to to gather in public places can be a bit problematic at this point. Despite releasing safety guidelines for these establishments on how to operate, the risk of getting infected is significantly high.
Here is some of what people want to say.??
