Many countries have laws and regulations in place to protect people against class discrimination. Anti-discrimination legislation seeks to ensure equal chances in work, education, housing, and other aspects of life.?
Nonetheless, due to complicated socioeconomic conditions and institutional disparities, numerous forms of class-based discrimination remain and this is one of those examples.?
A sequence of orders given to maids in Bengaluru has caused widespread resentment on social media. Vibin Babuurajan, a Twitter user, took to the microblogging site and published a screenshot of a circular with a few directions.?
The circular noted that people feel 'uncomfortable' when they are surrounded by maids wherever they go. As a result, it encouraged maids to spend their breaks in waiting areas. The decision was made because "security is not being able to monitor common areas."
The tweet prompted widespread criticism on social media. It further stated that most people have avoided sitting on sofas in public spaces because chefs and maids utilise them. "Residents of a Bangalore society confusing class and being a classist," the caption stated.
Instead of meeting in parks, amphitheatres, or gazebos, the direction offers using waiting areas within various buildings as sites for maids to wait or eat. The objective is to address residents' concerns about feeling uncomfortable because cleaners are there everywhere they walk, as well as the challenge of security monitoring such open places.?
Other vocations, such as cooks, carpenters and plumbers, are known to utilise sofas in building receptions, and it is claimed that many people have stopped utilising those sofas.
Many people got angry at the bizarre notice, a woman asked why it is so hard for people to understand that maids are humans only and they also deserve equal respect.
A man thought that the same maid roams in your house, cooks for you, cleans for you and that is acceptable but seeing them around you in the park is troublesome? Honestly, it sounds pathetic!?
A user gave an example of US that how in a cafeteria of their previous company in US, they saw janitors/other support staff sit, use, respected & serviced as a CEO would have been treated, but in the cafeteria of their present company, they see cleaners/janitors stand and drink tea even when seats are free. Feudal/casteist undertones of our society.
