Ever tried a ¡®balloon bread¡¯? An Italian food channel on Instagram has attracted the irk of desis, after they posted a video recipe, teaching their? followers, how to make ¡®whole wheat balloon bread¡¯.??
The video shared by Cookist on Instagram reminded many of the South Asian staple food item naan.?They shared the video of how to make the balloon bread and wrote, "Easy to make and delicious, this #baloonbread recipe is the perfect alternative to bread!"
In the video, the chef?follows a similar procedure of making naan bread. He?whisks all-purpose flour, adds sugar, salt, yeast, warm water, warm milk and vegetable oil to it to knead the dough. Then they made small balls from the dough and rolled them into disks and finally cooked on a?tawa.
The video has gone viral on Instagram. It has racked up more than 10 million views.?
Sharing the screenshot on Twitter, one user expressed her bemusing reaction to the western appropriation of the naan and tweeted, ¡°Excuse me, What?¡± The tweet has received over 17k likes since it was shared on the microblogging site.??
Several people took to the comments section to make their displeasure known.?
The appropriation of Asian cuisine by the West who then repackage and sell it as their own did not go down well. It was not the way the dish was made that seemed to be upsetting people but the name given to it.
It's not balloon bread, let's all agree to that.?
