Worcester resident Brad Gauthier is warning people againstusing earphones while falling asleep after healthcare workers had to remove awireless earbud from his esophagus.
According to reports he woke up one day to shovel snow for about an hour, and then went inside to take a sip of water. But the water wouldn't go down, and he had to lean over to drain it from his throat.

Gauthier also noticed he was missing one of his two wirelessearbuds, which he said typically uses as he falls asleep.
Gauthier's son suggested that perhaps his father hadswallowed the earbud, which is exactly what an X-ray at a local emergencyclinic revealed.?The small plastic device was lodged in his lower esophagus.
He told NBC Boston 10 that he wanted to share his experienceto caution others not to sleep with their headphones.

In a similar incident, another man in Taiwan found that hisAirPod was still functional after he had accidentally swallowed it, accordingto a report from the Daily Mail.
Ben Hsu reportedly fell asleep while wearing Apple'swireless earbuds and found that he was missing one headphone when he woke up.
Medics at the Kaohsiung Municipal Hospital indeed confirmedthat the AirPod was in his stomach and was in the process of passing throughhis digestive system, the Daily Mail report said. Hsu said he found the AirPodthe next day after passing it naturally. The earbud was still intact and workedproperly after he had cleaned it and let it dry.
