At some point, we all entertain the idea of grabbing our bags, letting go of all thoughts, and setting off without a fixed destination in mind, don't we? Venturing on an extraordinary trip from the USA to Jalandhar in India is no small feat. Remember the daring 53-year-old road enthusiast, Lakhwinder Singh, who embarked on this thrilling adventure?
Singh, who took the unforgettable journey in a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, covered 22,000+ km, crossing 23 countries.
FYI: To access the USA from India, the journey involves traversing from Delhi through Nepal, Tibet, China, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan to eventually connect with the expansive Trans-Siberian Highway, extending over 20,000 km, which is the world's longest highway.
Despite facing challenges that would rattle any daredevil, Singh persevered in his quest and continued on the route back to his home in Jalandhar. Notably, he declined sponsorships, opting to finance the entire trip from his own pocket. Singh invested over Rs 1 crore of his personal funds in the road expedition.
The journey was not confined to the road alone, given the vast distance between India and the USA. Singh initiated the adventure by shipping his car to the UK. From there, he commenced his road trip, driving from London to Paris, France. Along the way, Singh immersed himself in the breathtaking landscapes of various European countries.
Singh experienced the thrill of driving on Germany's unrestricted autobahn, where speed limits are not enforced. Throughout his journey, he encountered fines for speeding in various countries, including four violations: one in Serbia, two in Turkey, and another in Pakistan.
In a conversation with the YouTube channel Ride & Drive, Lakhwinder Singh shared the inspiration behind his epic adventure.?
He disclosed that the idea for the road trip emerged during a lockdown period when he was confined to his home for over two months. Singh explained that it took nearly three years to plan the entire trip before embarking on the journey. Notably, he wasn't alone on this adventure; his son accompanied him.
