A police officer in US' South Dakota has been hailed for going above and beyond the call of duty to deliver a food order after the intended delivery driver was arrested.
In a Ring camera video that¡¯s now gone viral, the Sioux Falls police officer Sam Buhr walked up to the customer holding a food order on Tuesday afternoon.
The original delivery driver had allegedly been arrested during a traffic stop for outstanding warrants.?So, the officer kindly decided to drop off her food so it wouldn¡¯t go to waste or ruin her lunch break.
¡°I know I¡¯m not who you were expecting, but your driver got arrested for some things he didn¡¯t take care of,¡± the smiling cop tells the woman. ¡°So I figured I¡¯d complete the DoorDash.¡±
The customer Anastasia Elsinger was heard laughing and thanking the officer as he returned to his police vehicle.?
¡°Thank you so much,¡± the resident said?¡°Take care,¡± the grinning officer said as he left, to which Elsinger replied, ¡°Thanks!¡±
A police spokesperson?confirmed to Newsweek?that Buhr stopped the driver for a traffic violation and arrested him for an undisclosed warrant.
"On Tuesday afternoon, Officer Sam Buhr stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation near 1st Street and Minnesota Avenue. The driver was arrested for a warrant,' the spokesperson told Newsweek.?
The driver was in the process of delivering food for Door Dash. Officer Buhr completed the delivery, bringing the food to the customer. While delivering food is not a normal part of police work, helping people is," they added.?
"Sioux Falls police officers regularly go above and beyond the normal job and this is just one example of that. Little things like this happen on a regular basis and while most don't receive the attention, we realize those little things can make a big difference," they continued.?
The Sioux Falls police department had to deny reports that officer Buhr was moonlighting.?
Officer Sam Clemens, during the police briefing, said the officer who made the delivery had stopped a suspect near Elsinger¡¯s address earlier. After the arrest, he realized the suspect was a DoorDash driver who hadn¡¯t yet made his delivery.
¡°This isn¡¯t normal by any stretch,¡± he said. ¡°It¡¯s not like we have officers that are out delivering food. But the little things like this ¨C going above and beyond, helping people out ¨C that¡¯s the things that we do, and probably more often than people realize.¡±??
