Looks like people in Ahmedabad will be united with impounded stray dogs and cattle, now that Donald Trump has flown back to the United States of America.
To see cattle and stray wandering the streets is a common sight in cities across India, but officials tried to contain this 'menace' for a brief period for the 'Namaste Trump' event in Ahmedabad.?
According to a TOI report, Municipal workers in Ahmedabad caught 48 cows and buffaloes, and 55 dogs from the Motera Stadium area before Trump's visit.?
The temporary arrangement was to ensure that the 'eyesores' were completely out of the picture on the VVIP route. Prior to Trump visit, the Cattle and Dog Nuisance Control Department (CDNCD) of?the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) constituted a team to capture dogs within at least 2.75-km radius of the VIP route.
There'a reason why officials took the decision to impound cattle this time - according to reports, in 2015, when US secretary of state John Kerry was on his way back to the airport after attending the inaugural function of the?Vibrant Gujarat Global Business Summit in Gandhinagar, his?cavalcade had hit a mongrel.?
To avoid any such embarrassing incident during the Trump visit officials caught as many dogs and cows as they could.?The airport area and the 1-km radius around Motera stadium towards Koteshwar and Bhatt village is known for ¡®nilgai¡¯?(blue bull) intrusions.
But now the cattle and strays will be released and the Municipal officials will make sure that the dogs are neutered and?sterilized before releasing, as they tend to get aggressive when pushed into a new locality.?
As for the cattle, the?owners have to pay a fine and to get it back. In May last year, a?court of additional sessions judge, M K Chauhan, convicted cattle-owners, Alpesh Rabari and Hitesh Rabari, and also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on?two cattle-rearers; they were also sentenced to three months in jail for letting their bovines roam free on public roads, posing a danger to commuters.?
Cattle-rearers can be?detained under?Prevention of Anti-Social Activities Act (PASA) or for violation of police notification, if their cattle is found straying on road.?With the onset of monsoon every year, the bovine menace on city roads increases. In the past, more than 10 citizens have been gored by cattle. Around four cows too have died and two injured in accidents earlier.?
