Thieves can sometimes come up with the most?out-of-the-box ideas?to commit crimes-and this particular incident is proof.?
CCTV footage captured?a criminal group using a?digger?to rip two cash machines from the wall of a supermarket?in?Kent, UK, stealing over ?200,000 (Rs 1,9 crore).
In the footage, members of a robbery group can be seen using a digger¡¯s bear claw and smashing apart the building that houses the cash machines before dragging the money away.
The vehicles involved in the heist then drove at officers on foot who attended and rammed two police cars as they left the scene. In addition to the stolen cash, the members of the group caused around ?40,000 (Rs 38 lakh) of damage during the incident.?
Two members of the group¡ªwho caused huge damage to businesses around the region during a string of similar ATM thefts¡ªhave since been jailed.
Anthony Pemberthy and Stephen Davenport were sentenced to a combined total of more than 16 years for their part in targeting supermarkets and service stations.
Kent Police detectives used advanced DNA techniques to show Davenport was driving the pickup trucks used during the offences.
Pemberthy was shown to have operated the diggers used in Staplehurst, Whitfield, Northfleet, and Dymchurch.
Officers were also able to prove that, in February 2020, the pair were in convoy with a stolen Range Rover used by the group.
Detectives from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate tracked them down and arrested them following DNA?tracing techniques.??
Both men admitted to burglary offences ahead of a planned trial at Maidstone Crown Court. Pemberthy was given an eight-year, nine month sentence, while Davenport was handed seven years and five months.
