A case of theft was registered with Deccan police earlier inthe month when a fully grown sandalwood tree was stolen from the premises ofFergusson College in Pune.?
The theft occurred on November 5 when culprits sawed down the tree in the wee hours of the morning and stole the stump, according to a report by?Hindustan Times.
A case has been booked against three unidentified persons,even though no persons have as yet been arrested.
This is not the first time that sandalwood trees have been"stolen" from private or protected premises.?

In August this year, a man was arrested for allegedly stealing sandalwood, following a call made to the police control in Pune. According to police, Limaye woke up on hearing the tree being chopped and informed the police control room around 3.50 am. A police team reached the spot and arrested Thombre, while his aides managed to escape.
Sandalwood poaching is a familiar crime in states likeMaharashtra and Karnataka. In 2018, poachers had made off with severalsandalwood trees from inside a Karnataka State Reserve Police premises inBengaluru.

Another tree theft coincided with the Pune one, a? 25-ft pine was also stolen somewhere sometimeon November 5 e in Wisconsin, United States.
The stolen tree was about 30 yards (30 metres) from a streetthat runs through the arboretum, which is a popular spot for walkers, joggers,bicyclists and nature lovers.?The tree was planted in 1988, and a twin tree next to it wasleft unharmed.
