Last year, the 33rd edition of the Venice Marathon kicked off, but running 26.2 miles wasn't the only challenge. As the city of Venice flooded, people were forced to run in ankle-deep water.
The race started from Villa Pisani on the Brenta Riviera to the city of Venice following the route - St Mark¡¯s Square, the Doge's Palace and then the famous Bell Tower. There were a lot of videos doing rounds on Twitter, lauding the people who were running in the ankle-deep water, wearing knee-high boots and raincoats.?
The city of Venice was hit by a high tide from Northern Adriatic Sea and strong winds which led to a flood after almost a decade.?

This year, Venice was flooded on November 12 by a tidal surge of 187 cm, the highest level since 1966, when a 194 cm tide was recorded, IANS reported. Within the next four days, Venice¡¯s St Mark¡¯s Square was completely drowned in water.?
According to reports, the causes of the tidal peak include the movement and phase of the moon, wind movement and direction, as well as rain levels and rising sea levels.?
We hope Venice gets back on its feet soon enough, but until then, you might want to find a better place to click a selfie.
