People's days are being spoiled as a result of discovering an unusual fact on the internet. After an hour or so of doom scrolling on social media, you're probably guaranteed to come across something you wish you hadn't seen. What are we talking about now?
Chin dimples are clearly in that category, as viewers wished YouTuber and science genius Hank Green would simply keep things to himself. On TikTok, one user questioned what the dimple on their chin was, and Green was there to give his expert opinion.
"What is this?" the user inquired as Green explained that chin dimples are created by your mentalis muscle."It's in your chin and it is very weird," he said. "You have correctly identified a strange muscle. Excellent work. Almost every muscle in your body connects a bone to another bone," he told his followers.?
"You move by yanking your bones against each other. Other muscles, such as sphincters, simply yank on themselves."?
"The heart is a completely different type of muscle; it yanks on itself to move your blood. In our faces, we have a bunch of muscles that don't connect to other bones," Green explained.
"You can tell, right? We're not yanking on bones here, with all the movement that faces make, and the fact that we can communicate and emote and whatnot. We're pulling on skin."?
This is when things start to get a little disgusting. The social media celebrity revealed that the mentalis muscle connects the bone to the skin, which results in dimples on your skin when you flex it.?
"You can see the mentalis here, doing an absolutely wild thing, sticking all of its little muscle fibres into your skin," he added, before showing a horrifying image of the muscle extending from the head. Watch the viral video here.
