If the mass layoffs and trimming of employees¡¯ perks weren¡¯t enough, Elon Musk seems to be piling up more misery for Twitter employees.
For the remaining Twitter staff (after the back-to-back layoffs affected nearly 70% of employees), Elon Musk has slashed Twitter's parental leave policy from 20 weeks to as low as 2 weeks (14 days),?as per a report by the New York Times.
There is no federal law in the United States that mandates paid parental leave. According to the Family and Medical Leave Act, certain employees are allowed "unpaid, job-protected leave for specified family and medical reasons" for up to 12 weeks.
The new change by Twitter?will affect those who work in the US and do not have a paid leave policy. At present, only 12 states in the US are reportedly offering paid family and medical leave. In New York and New Jersey, employees are permitted up to 26 weeks of unpaid, job-protected leave in addition to 12 weeks of paid leave, whereas in California, under state law, staff are allowed up to eight weeks of paid leave.
"The San Franciso-based social media platform (Twitter) changed its previous policy to "whatever is required by law in the region where the employees work, along with a 'top up' of two weeks of leave, the report further said citing internal memo.
Last year, in January, tech giant?Google?announced that it had increased parental leave to 18 weeks for all parents (previously 12 weeks) and 24 weeks for parents who give birth (previously 18 weeks).
